Every year my mom and I start watching Christmas movies shortly after Halloween. Its not necessarily because we are those people that annoy everyone else by breaking out the Christmas stuff early (although, sometimes we do qualify for that) but its because we have SO many Christmas movies that we love to watch and we need two whole months to do it. We love them all-- the classics, the cheesy Hallmark movies, Fa La La La Lifetime movies, new movies, etc. This time of year, my mom's DVR is usually packed full of made-for-TV Christmas movies. But we have been finding it especially difficult to continue our tradition now that we don't live together anymore so I've designated a day (Wednesdays) to go over there and watch Christmas movies with her. This past Wednesday, I brought Coming Home For Christmas to see if it passed our Christmas movie test.
Coming Home For Christmas
After their parents separate, two estranged sisters who haven't been on speaking terms reunite in hopes that having a family Christmas all together for the first time in years will bring their Mom and Dad close again. They plan to do this in their old family home... the only problem is someone else lives there now. The audience for this movie is primarily families, but would be enjoyed by couples and children groups as well.
Director: Vanessa Parise
Cast: George Canyon (Christmas Miracle, Dawn Rider, Man of Steel), Aaron Pritchett, Britt McKillip (Dead Like Me), Carly McKillip (Hot Rod)
Soundtrack also available featuring holiday songs performed by George Canyon
The DVD includes a limited edition Norman Rockwell print!
I'll be very upset if you tell me you don't know who Norman Rockwell is but just in case... Rockwell was famous for his famous American culture illustrations and artwork. He was born in the late 1800’s and died in the mid 1900’s. If you really don't know who he is, you need to go look him up on Google. Its ok, I'll wait.
My mom and I actually enjoyed the storyline and I don't think we've ever disliked a movie that had a cute guy in it (this one has Ben Hollingsworth). We only have two complaints-- there was no captioning and the music was really loud throughout the whole movie. The captioning really affected me because I have a hearing loss and I depend on them A LOT so it was a rather big disappointment. Plus, the music was so loud during some of the scenes that both my mom and I could've used some captions to see what the people were actually saying! But other than those two things, we really enjoyed the movie and I would watch it again!
