Keep Warm at The Henry Ford Museum

It has been yet another COLD winter here in Detroit. Most of the time, its even too cold for kids to even play outside in the snow (which we currently still have about 6 inches of) so you have to be creative when thinking of how to entertain your kids. At The Henry Ford Museum, you can entertain and educate your kids at the same time so its always one of our favorite winter hangouts.

The Henry Ford always seems to have fun programs and events going on. Right now (until March 15th) they have Engines Exposed, where they have popped the top on some of our cars to show the hidden engines. This warm indoor attraction is great for families to learn about historical cars. My husband is the biggest car enthusiast I know so I knew he would be excited to go but I'm pretty surprised by how much Z and I enjoyed it as well.

It’s an unprecedented excursion as they pop the hoods of more than 40 of the most iconic cars ever made, including their Bugatti Type 41 Royale Convertible, their 1948 Tucker 48 Sedan, the 1963 Chrysler Gas Turbine and the remarkable 1916 Woods Dual Power Hybrid Coupe, a car that was 80 years ahead of its time.

My husband took some great pictures of some of the cars and these were my favorite photos:

And here are a couple of our family photos of the day:

This was actually the best visit we've ever had at The Henry Ford Museum! We went later in the day so it wasn't very crowded and Z was really excited about everything! The best way to learn, have fun, and outwit the cold weather is truly by visiting The Henry Ford. They have so many exciting activities to increase educational fun time spent with your children. Now we really cannot wait until Spring & Summer so we can visit the adjacent Greenfield Village as well!

Other great indoor events going on at The Henry Ford right now:
IMAX Theatre- See a family film in their re-opened IMAX Theatre. 3D movies will have you on your toes while watching lovable Lemurs, Penguins, and Humpback Whales.
Black History Month- Take the family on a walk through time in our With Liberty, and Justice for All exhibit which displays a timeline of tribulation leading all the way to triumph. Sit in Rosa Parks’ seat on the bus, view original copy of the 13th amendment, and learn about Martin Luther King.
The Ford Rouge Factory Tour- Modern kids deserve modern adventures with our re-imagined Ford Rouge Factory Tour. Check out the futuristic innovation theater, the live creation of the Ford F150, and the famous Legacy Gallery.

If you're around the Metro Detroit area, take the family to The Henry Ford Museum and I promise you wont regret it! To learn more or order your tickets visit www.thehenryford.org.

  1. This looks like a totally fascinating place! I've never been to Detroit, but if I get there, I have to check it out. The only famous car I've seen was the car that Bonnie and Clyde died in (it's in a hotel/casino in Primm, Nevada. It looked like Swiss cheese, OMG!)

    1. That's pretty cool! The Henry Ford Museum has the limo that JFK was assassinated in but so many modifications were made to it afterward and four presidents after JFK continued to use it before it was finally retired so it doesn't have bullet holes or anything. I'd love to see the Bonnie and Clyde one!
