Crayon Rocks Review and Giveaway

I had first heard about Crayon Rocks from a friend and I knew I just had to try them! I reached out to Barbara and asked her if Baby Z and I could review them and she quickly sent me some samples. Words cannot express how impressed I am with these crayons. I cannot believe they are not in used in schools everywhere!

The creator of Crayon Rocks, Barbara Lee, taught children with special needs for 23 years. She created them after learning how important it was for children to develop a good tripod grip early. From her website, "Since a child's first writing tool is usually a crayon, that crayon should be one that encourages him or her to use thumb, first and second fingers in a tripod grip.  This is what makes Crayon Rocks a wonderful tool for fine motor development."

I've always known how important it is for children to use the tripod grip but no matter how much I tried to encourage Baby Z to do it, she continued to hold her crayons and markers awkwardly. She was very excited when I dumped a couple of Crayon Rocks on the table for her and sat her down with some blank paper. After just a few seconds of figuring out the best way to hold them, she was coloring up a storm USING THE TRIPOD GRIP! Did I mention that my child is 19 months old?!? I'm just so utterly impressed that something so simple (and so natural!) made such a huge improvement on something so important.

Trying to figure out how to hold it correctly.
I cannot say enough good things about this product, it is just so perfect for kids working on their fine motor skills. I have been talking about them non-stop with anyone who will listen and I cannot wait to share these with the special education teachers I know, they NEED these in their classrooms!

Pros:
Even though she is holding it "backwards," she is still using the tripod grip.

  22. My son is currently obsessed with rocks... Any rock he finds goes straight into his mouth. Well EVERYTHING goes into his mouth. It is a huge perk to me that these are non toxic and I would feel safer having him put these in his mouth... I wish that I could say he wont put these in his mouth, but he will, so the fact that they are non toxic is a HUGE PLUS... Plus they are USA made so that helps our own people succeed....
