Most people I know don't even know what a butter bell is, let alone how to use one but I remember my mom got a butter bell when I was in my teens and from then on, I considered it a must-have item in any kitchen. Never have I seen a butter bell as beautiful as The Original Butter Bell Crock in the Candy Apple Red Stripe design by L. Tremain that I received though. I mean, just look how gorgeous it is!
Using a butter bell has always been kind of a no-brainer for me. I've always kind of stayed away from using margarine or any other fake "butter" because I know the benefits do not outweigh risks. Through the study of traditional butter storage methods along with hours of product development, L. Tremain, Inc. came up with a modern solution to the butter dilemma: The Original Butter Bell Crock. Since I prefer to use REAL butter, the butter crock basically helps me take the benefits of spreadable margarine and still keep the benefits of using real butter.
The Original Butter Bell Crock allows butter to be kept at room temperature, on the counter or tabletop without spoilage, refrigeration or odors. The product's innovative design keeps butter at the perfect "spreading" consistency by reflecting outside heat while insulating and cooling the butter. Flavor and freshness is protected by an airtight seal of water at the base of the crock.
The idea behind the Butter Bell is that you squish softened butter into the cup (I use the back of a spoon to help me pack it in there really tight) and then you put cool water into the bottom crock. Then all you have to do is put the two pieces together and the water creates an airtight seal on the butter which keeps it fresh. I gave a demonstration in pictures below for those of us who are more visual. After you set it all up, all you have to do is change the water every 3 days to keep everything clean and you have fresh, soft, spreadable butter at your disposal!

Not only will a butter bell make your cooking needs easier with spreadable, fresh butter BUT it looks pretty dang cute on your counter top too!
