Stroll down streets and alleys haunted by over 1,000 carved jack-o’-lanterns and lavishly costumed characters during America’s most spooktacular Halloween event. New this year, Greenfield Village welcomes Top Hat Sideshow, a carnival vaudeville act that brings to this event the spirit and thrills of the traveling sideshows and carnivals of the early part of the 1900s. Taking the stage next to Wright Home, this traveling carnival vaudeville experience will include sword swallowing, fire breathing, life threatening escapes, mind reading, death-defying sideshow stunts, as well as mind-bending illusions with a comedic flair.

"Enjoy our historically themed Hallowe’en event. Follow a mile-long, curving path illuminated by the flickering light of hand-carved jack-o'-lanterns and meet classic costumed characters along the way. Feel the chilly whoosh of air as the Headless Horseman rides out of the shadows of Firestone Farm’s fields, and banter with witches, wizards and dancing skeletons. They’re everywhere along Jack-o’-Lantern Boulevard. The good news is that you can bring the entire family. This is a kid-friendly, nightmare-free Halloween gathering."

Time slots are every 1/2 hour from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays 

and 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays.

Since I grew up in Metro Detroit, I've been to Greenfield Village several times throughout my life and each time I go, its more fun than the last! My family and I had the pleasure of going to Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village last year and it was more fun than we ever imagined so we are really excited that we get the chance to go back again this year and see all of their newest additions! Kick off this summer with a trip to The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far! One of our favorite things to do in the summer is hang out at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. We love spending a sunny day wandering around Greenfield Village or spending a rainy or hot day inside the Henry Ford Museum! Since we enjoy it as a family so much, I wanted to let you know about all the exciting activities at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village both this week and all summer long.

Keep Warm at The Henry Ford Museum

It has been yet another COLD winter here in Detroit. Most of the time, its even too cold for kids to even play outside in the snow (which we currently still have about 6 inches of) so you have to be creative when thinking of how to entertain your kids. At The Henry Ford Museum, you can entertain and educate your kids at the same time so its always one of our favorite winter hangouts.

The Henry Ford always seems to have fun programs and events going on. Right now (until March 15th) they have Engines Exposed, where they have popped the top on some of our cars to show the hidden engines. This warm indoor attraction is great for families to learn about historical cars. My husband is the biggest car enthusiast I know so I knew he would be excited to go but I'm pretty surprised by how much Z and I enjoyed it as well.

It’s an unprecedented excursion as they pop the hoods of more than 40 of the most iconic cars ever made, including their Bugatti Type 41 Royale Convertible, their 1948 Tucker 48 Sedan, the 1963 Chrysler Gas Turbine and the remarkable 1916 Woods Dual Power Hybrid Coupe, a car that was 80 years ahead of its time.

This was actually the best visit we've ever had at The Henry Ford Museum! We went later in the day so it wasn't very crowded and Z was really excited about everything! The best way to learn, have fun, and outwit the cold weather is truly by visiting The Henry Ford. They have so many exciting activities to increase educational fun time spent with your children. Now we really cannot wait until Spring & Summer so we can visit the adjacent Greenfield Village as well!

My family and I were so excited to go to Holidays in Henry Ford! The museum was decorated for Christmas and we were happily surprised to find that 3 of the Mold A Rama machines had holiday themed molds in them! We decided to get the Polar Express and Santa, and I really regret not getting the cute Christmas tree too...

There are so many must-sees in The Henry Ford this holiday season but one of the coolest and most unique to me was the Lego model of mid-20th-century Detroit! I posted some pictures of it below but pictures still don't do it justice. I love Detroit a lot so it was so great to see buildings like the Guardian Building made completely out of Legos and 8 feet tall!

I'm going to warn you now, this post is going to be filled with tons of amazing pictures. Usually I just pick my favorites for the posts but there were too many good ones to just leave out!

P.S. Hurry in if you want to the Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame because its only open til January 4, 2015! 

We didn't meet Santa this time (although there was no line when we went!) because Z gets really shy and nervous around Santa although she loves talking about him and seeing him on TV.  Z would've been happy spending hours looking at the model trains and playing with the Duplo Blocks that were set up for play. I loved that we were able to go inside a train car where a nice lady was reading The Polar Express to all of the kids. Of course Z wouldnt stand still long enough to listen to the story but she really enjoyed walking through the train and looking out the windows.

My biggest tip to anyone who is thinking about going is to plan ahead what route you want to take through the village before you go. It was quite overwhelming to try and find everything in the dim lights and it was really easy to get turned around. Even though you have maps, its hard to see them with barely any lights! But we had fun regardless and we saw everything we came to see.

Overall, it was great fun but very cold! Thankfully, there were huge fire pits throughout the village being used as "warm up stations"! Our favorite activities were riding in the horse drawn wagons and seeing Santa. If you go tell one of Santa's helpers your child's name, Santa would say hi to them from the balcony. Z was pretty surprised when he said her name! This would make such a great family tradition to start. Have you ever been to Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village before?

Twelve Oaks Mall Holiday Shopping and Family Fun

If you're still looking for that perfect gift or holiday outfit, you can find everything you need this holiday season at Twelve Oaks Mall! This week, our family got the chance to visit Twelve Oaks Mall just to share our shopping experience with you! I mean, who could say no to shopping?? Unfortunately, we had a camera malfunction while there (the camera wouldnt accept my SD card for some reason...) so all of these photos were taken with my phone but thankfully, they turned out really well!

Twelve Oaks is one of only ten malls across the country that has caught Frozen Fever and features a 30 foot tall Frozen Ice Palace! This interactive holiday display features the art of Anna, Elsa and their friends Olaf, Kristoff and Sven, plus a 30-foot ice palace with falling snow, a light show and other activities for the whole family.  Plus, there are fun interactive globes that showcase different scenes from the movie. The only thing that would've made the whole experience better would've been if there were live characters there to take pictures with (but I assume the lines would've been way longer if they were). At least Santa was there and an impressive looking one too!

If you're looking to get your family out of the house this holiday season, Twelve Oaks Mall not only has tons of stuff to do (did I mention they have nearly 200 stores and restaurants?) but they have tons to look at! I mean, other than the huge Frozen Ice Palace, there are Christmas decorations and displays all throughout the mall, look at this gorgeous Christmas tree display outside of the Pottery Barn!

The displays and decorations are nice but let's face it, what's a trip to the mall without checking out the sales? I cannot believe all of the sales going on at Twelve Oaks Mall right now! It seriously felt like every single store was having a holiday sale! At Yankee Candle Co., you can mix and match their selections at 4 for $20! JCPenney had 60% off all Christmas Decor and 50% off select coats! The stockings (bottom right in the collage below) were at JCPenney on sale for 70% off! 

Well, Z was not enjoying letting us try on clothes but we did manage to snag a few deals for my husband! He bought a new jacket and a new pair of jeans! Both the jacket and the jeans were from JCPenney and both were on sale (I had coupons too! haha). It was so hard to get him to pose for me... apparently he was not meant to be a model. lol 

Hurry and head to Twelve Oaks Mall so your kids can meet Santa and explore the Frozen Ice Palace before they're gone (less than a week left)! While you're there, check out all of the sales happening throughout the whole mall. I was able to finish up all of my Christmas shopping in one trip!
