Frightfully Fun for the Whole Family!

Greenfield Village is one of my family's favorite places to explore in Metro Detroit and it's even more fun to visit during their special events! We were beyond thrilled when we got invited to attend Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village again this year. We had so many great memories from last year and we were very excited to see what new things were waiting for us this year! Well, the weather was perfect, the displays and characters were as charismatic as ever, and we had such a memorable time.

I love that this is a kid-friendly, nightmare-free Halloween gathering. Some of it was a little on the scary side but my three year old has loved it both years we went. When you walk into the Village, you even receive a plastic Halloween bag so you can collect the candy that is given out during the event!

New this year, Greenfield Village welcomed the Top Hat Sideshow, a carnival vaudeville act that brings the spirit and thrills of the traveling sideshows and carnivals of the early 1900s. This traveling carnival included sword swallowing, fire breathing, life threatening escapes, mind reading, death-defying sideshow stunts, as well as mind-bending illusions with a comedic flair. We arrived just in time to see the fire breathing and Z was simply mesmerized by it!

One of our favorite features of the Hallowe'en celebrations are the thousands of jack-o-lanterns that line the path. They are each unique and I think there were even more this year than there were last year! We have had such a great time that we have decided to officially make Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village an annual tradition for our family. Since I grew up in Metro Detroit, I've been to Greenfield Village several times throughout my life and each time I go, its more fun than the last! My family and I had the pleasure of going to Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village last year and it was more fun than we ever imagined so we are really excited that we get the chance to go back again this year and see all of their newest additions! Motor Muster at Greenfield Village

We spent the most perfect Saturday afternoon at Greenfield Village yesterday for the Motor Muster event! The village was filled with over 850 cars from the 1930s to the 1970s and my husband, the gearhead, was in car heaven. It was the perfect Father's Day weekend event for him.

It was cloudy out but that didn't stop the crowds from coming out to check out all of the vintage cars-- it truly was a great time. Z's favorite part of the whole day was riding the train and I think she would've ridden it all day long if I had let her. You cannot go to Greenfield Village without riding the train. We also rode the 1931 Ford Model AA Bus (for only 50 cents!), the carousel, and the Model-T cars!

Unfortunately we missed the historic baseball game though. The baseball games happen every Saturday and Sunday in Greenfield Village and are played by the 1867 rules. Can you imagine playing baseball with no gloves? Sounds crazy! Pretty bummed I missed it but I'm hoping to catch another game this summer!

In fact, we plan on going several times this summer as there is so much to do we found it really hard to fit everything into one trip! There truly is something at Greenfield Village for everyone; Z could've played at the playground all day, I want to catch a historic baseball game, and my husband loves checking out the old machinery around the village!

As I was busy running after our very excited toddler, my husband took most of these pictures and I'm quite proud of how they turned out!

Kick off this summer with a trip to The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village!

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer so far! One of our favorite things to do in the summer is hang out at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. We love spending a sunny day wandering around Greenfield Village or spending a rainy or hot day inside the Henry Ford Museum! Since we enjoy it as a family so much, I wanted to let you know about all the exciting activities at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village both this week and all summer long.

Also, if you are still looking for something to do this Father's Day weekend, look no further! We are going to celebrate my wonderful husband by taking him to Motor Muster at Greenfield Village this weekend! Since he's the biggest gearhead I know, this is going to be PERFECT for him. Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village was voted Top Holiday Event by USA Today and Reader’s Digest, and now my family knows why. It's been cold in Michigan the last few weeks but that didn't stop us from wanting to experience the fun of Christmas past at Greenfield Village. My mom has been excited for this event since Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village and my brother is home from college for Christmas so we thought this would be such a great night out together as a family!

Advance reservations are recommended because the night we went was sold out.

My biggest tip to anyone who is thinking about going is to plan ahead what route you want to take through the village before you go. It was quite overwhelming to try and find everything in the dim lights and it was really easy to get turned around. Even though you have maps, its hard to see them with barely any lights! But we had fun regardless and we saw everything we came to see.

Overall, it was great fun but very cold! Thankfully, there were huge fire pits throughout the village being used as "warm up stations"! Our favorite activities were riding in the horse drawn wagons and seeing Santa. If you go tell one of Santa's helpers your child's name, Santa would say hi to them from the balcony. Tonight my husband, Z, my mom, and I were lucky enough to go to Hallowe'en in Greenfield Village and it was so much more fun than I expected! The weather was perfect, the displays and costumes were amazing, and we had such a great time. I love that this is a kid-friendly, nightmare-free Halloween gathering. Some of it was a little on the scary side but my two year old really, really enjoyed all of it.
